Making Arrangements

Last minute visits are rarely possible as our staff has many commitments.

Program Costs
There is a minimum charge for school programs of $50. Groups of 25 or more students are charged $2/ student. Chaperones, at the recommended one per five students, are free; each chaperone beyond that point is $5/person. The minimum charge for adults groups is $50; adults group of five or more are charged $10/person.

Mainland Transportation
Buses should drop students off at the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal on Commercial Street, downtown Portland. Students will take the ferry from Portland to Peaks Island. Please see www.cascobaylines.com for ferry schedule and fares.

Please note
Groups of more than 25 students should call Casco Bay Lines. (207) 774-7871, in advance, to prepare them for the arrival of a large group. For very large groups, arranging for an additional boat is necessary.

Island Transportation
After the 20 minute ferry ride, all program participants will need to be able to walk from the Peaks Island ferry landing for one quarter of a mile to the Fifth Maine Regiment Museum. Please refer to this map of the island:

Please note
It is not practical to pack all student lunches in large totes and expect to carry them for this distance. You may find that having students carry their own lunches and drinks in backpacks works best.

Facilities
Public restrooms are available in the ferry terminal, on the ferry, and in the public parking lot at the Peaks Island ferry landing. Two restrooms are available on the main floor of the museum. Only the first floor of the museum is wheelchair accessible.

Preparedness
Weather can change quickly on the island. Regardless of the forecast, a sweatshirt, windbreaker, walking shoes, and hat are recommended.
