January, 2004 . "Dining Room Roof Repaired".

One more of those important jobs on the "back burner", replacement of the dining room roof, needed to be done for a while because of persistent leaks in the old roofing.

Our board member in charge of maintenance, Mick Hocker, indicated that seams in the old roof were sealed some years ago and, although that helped, it never solved all the leaking problems. The problem was especially troublesome in the dining room, storage room and kitchen areas....even leaking into a couple of our new kitchen cabinets.

On examination by the professionals, it was determined that patching was a bad idea because it would continue to spring leaks. The consensus was that total replacement was necessary.

So, during the week of January 26th this year, the wood decking was removed and the process for the new roof began by Demmons Roofing of Portland. It was mighty cold, but dry....and the intrepid crew did a masterful job of removing the 15-year-old roof and laying down new closed-cell panels, edging the porch area with pressure-treated wood, taping the seams, and applying a new waterproof adhesive to complete the process. Then, a final rubber membrane was rolled on to create an even thickness. The entire process of the $11,000 job took just 4 days and is completely guaranteed. We have now re-done all roof areas of the building.
