Fifth Maine Exterior Maintenance Needs

With warmer weather on the horizon, the Fifth Maine's Building Committee turns its attention to exterior maintenance tasks that can't be done during the cold winter months. Replacing rotted wood and re-painting always top the list.

In addition to replacing some of the posts and railings on the porch, ramp, and front balcony, plans are being made to replace all of the deteriorated windows in the dining room and repair and paint the lower level of the oceanside wall. Some of these more extensive (and expensive) projects have been placed on the back-burner for a while.

It will undoubtedly take additional, non-budgeted funding resources to complete much if not all of this work. The Board of Directors is seeking any additional funding sources, including much needed private donations, in order to complete these major projects.

The exterior cladding and trim on the oceanside dining room wall take a beating due to the hall's location so close to the shore.
A view of the access ramps. Both are in need of paint and preservative, and some repair.
The railing on the front, upper balcony is rotted....presenting a safety hazard for volunteers needing to tend the flagpole, and limited other uses.
