Traveling Workshop
Teaching and Interpreting the Civil War
The Fifth Maine Regiment Museum is pleased to present a 4 hour workshop designed to assist teachers and museum personnel (paid and volunteer) as they prepare Civil War related curricula, exhibits, and activities for students and museum visitors of all ages.
The workshop sessions will cover such topics as Maine regiments, teaching hands-on, abolitionism, and the freedom trail as well as the cultural, economic and political aspects of the 1850s, 60s and 70s.
The The workshop includes:·
- Introduction to Civil War by Kim MacIsaac and Tricia Erikson
- "Hands-on Minds-on: Using Primary Sources to Teach the Civil War" with Tricia Erikson with hands-on activities for participants to try and a Q & A.
- "Remembering the Civil War in a Throwaway Society" with Kim MacIsaac with demonstrations of ways to interpret Civil War era materials using actual artifacts followed by a Q &A
- Wrap-up
Workshop may be customized to meet your needs.
Our fee is $500 plus travel expenses of $.52/mile. The minimum number of participants is 12.
