Evening lecture "What They Wore" by Dr. Richard Milstead and Carolyn Lawson @ Fifth Maine Museum

Please join us on the evening of Thursday, September 7th at 6:30pm for a talk by Dr. Richard Milstead and Carolyn Lawson, entitled “What They Wore.”

Dr. Milstead was the guest curator for the Fifth Maine Museum’s new exhibit in 2023 by the same name. The exhibit includes reproduction Civil War jackets and a reproduction nurse’s uniform, on loan from Carolyn Lawson. Both Dr. Milstead and Carolyn Lawson will share some of the historical details of these garments and how they relate to the Fifth Maine Regiment specifically.

Join us the night of the full Harvest Moon, as The Hedgehogs celebrate with music, dancing, and festive refreshment!

The Hedgehogs play British Invasion tunes and showcase dances of the 1960s, accompanied by “The Hedgehoppers” dancers!
All are welcome to sing and dance along. Music in the Hall. Drinks and spectacular views on the porch.

Harvest Supper — Chili Night!!

Harvest Supper -- Chili Night!! @ Fifth Maine Museum

The Fifth Maine Museum’s Harvest Supper will be on Saturday, October 7th, with seatings at 5:30pm and at 7:00pm. We’ll still have two seatings in our dining room, and we’re adding a TO GO option.

We are changing things up for our Harvest Supper this year!

Don’t worry. Your old favorites – delicious food, good friends, and the warm atmosphere of the Fifth Maine Museum dining room – will still be there.

New this year, we’ll be offering a beef chili and a vegan chili, with lots of hot sauce on the side for those who like it spicy!! Salad, cornbread, and apple crisp for dessert make this a delicious meal!

Cider and coffee provided — but you are welcome to BYOB.

Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members — and must be bought prior to the event. Please email  fifthmainemuseum@gmail.com or call 207-766-3330 to place an order.

When you place your order, let us know which seating you would like to attend, and if you will eat in the dining room or if you’d prefer our TO GO option. Once 60 dining room seats are sold at each time slot, only the TO GO option will be available.

COST:

Member prices: $20 adults, $10 kids

Non-member prices: $25 adults, $12 kids

Kids under 3 eat free.

Wine Night with Layne Witherell

Evening lecture – Rights of Nature: Establishing legal rights for non-humans and natural systems

Peaks Island resident and landscape architect, Ann Kearsley, will present her talk entitled, “Rights of Nature” in the Fifth Maine Museum dining room.

Ann will discuss how the movement to establish legal rights for non-humans and natural systems could shape the future of our built environment, followed by a Q&A session from the audience. Please join us for this thought-provoking evening!

Peaks Island resident Ann Kearsley is a landscape architect and urban designer and the owner of Ann Kearsley Design based in Portland, ME. She teaches in the graduate landscape architecture program at the Rhode Island School of Design and lectures frequently on integrating ecological restoration and regenerative agricultural techniques into landscape planning, design, and construction. Her current research investigates the potential for Rights of Nature legal challenges to create a framework for a more equitable and cooperative inter-species sharing of our landscapes.
