Please join us for an opening reception of our new photography exhibit entitled “Peaks. An Island Like No Other.”

Photographer, David Owen, will be on hand to share how his love of Peaks Island informs the unique images he has captured.

The Fifth Maine Museum is hosting a combined Art on the Porch / ART WALK event on Sunday, August 13th, from 10am – 3pm.

TIME: 10am – 3pm
PLACE: Fifth Maine Museum / art studios around Peaks Island

Start at the Fifth Maine Museum (45 Seashore Avenue) and get a map so you can visit the island artists who are selling from their home studios.

This is a fabulous, annual event with a wide assortment of hand made items — jewelry, textiles, paintings, leather goods, hand-pulled prints, stained glass, botanical soaps and shampoos, candles, watercolors, note cards, photography, letter press stationery, post cards, upcycled clothing — the list goes on and on. Get a jump start on your holiday shopping or just treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind gift!

Be sure to check out our new Fifth Maine merchandise too – made by island artists who are supporting the Fifth Maine!

We won’t send you home hungry. There is delicious grill food for everyone to enjoy.

History in the Hall: The Captured Flags of Rappahannock Station @ Fifth Maine Museum

At Rappahannock Station, the 5th Maine Regiment was conspicuous for its gallantry, capturing four enemy flags. But discrepancy between sources has led to confusion about which flags were captured. Fifth Maine Museum board member, Curt Mildner, will present the results of his original research to establish which four flags the regiment captured.
