Start at the Fifth Maine Museum (45 Seashore Avenue) and get a map so you can visit the island artists who are selling from their home studios.
This is a fabulous, annual event with a wide assortment of hand made items — jewelry, textiles, paintings, leather goods, hand-pulled prints, stained glass, botanical soaps and shampoos, candles, watercolors, note cards, photography, letter press stationery, post cards, upcycled clothing — the list goes on and on. At Rappahannock Station, the 5th Maine Regiment was conspicuous for its gallantry, capturing four enemy flags. But discrepancy between sources has led to confusion about which flags were captured. Fifth Maine Museum board member, Curt Mildner, will present the results of his original research to establish which four flags the regiment captured.
